Phnom Penh: (Sept 9, 2013): Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Leader and Senate President Chea Sim has been reported that he resigned from his position as a parliamentarian in order to pave the way for the party’s young generation.
81-year-old Chea Sim – whose health condition is not so well – has resigned alongside with his juniors as well Minister of Information and government spokesman Khieu Kanharith are for CPP’s youth leaders, including Prime Minister Hun Sen’s son Hun Mani, and the son of Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Kheng.
On Sunday, the National Election Committee (NEC) officially announced that CPP wins the 28 July national elections up to 68 out of 123 parliamentary seats while the Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) of Sam Rainsy is getting 55 seats.
Although CPP wins the elections and will lead the government for the next five years, it has lost 22 seats to CNRP at the 28 July elections.
However, CNRP has rejected the results saying that its party’s results have been stolen and alleged NEC as the thief who helped steal the election results for CPP.
Since last Saturday, CNRP has led a series of peaceful protests at the Freedom park in Phnom Penh to seek for setting up a joint investigation committee consists the CNRP and CPP as well as the United Nations but no need the NEC.
Sam Rainsy alleged NEC as the thief who helped steal the election results from CNRP for CPP so that the joint investigation committee does not need the thief like NEC.
Kem Sokha, the CNRP Vice President, also said that the CNRP would ask King Norodom Sihamoni to help solve the problems when the King returns from China next week.
King Norodom Sihamoni on Sunday after the official announcement of NEC appealed the two parties’ leaders to find a peaceful solution for the interests of the nation and people. CPP then issued a statement to support the King’s message saying that it is ready for doing so.
