AHF converts Valentine’s Day to International Condom Day in Cambodia

4Phnom Penh (13 Feb 2014): The US-headquartered AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) will join Cambodia to conduct a campaign for International Condom Day on Friday – the Valentine’s Day on 14 Feb – to host free HIV testing events and condom giveaways in eight locations throughout Phnom Penh.

The campaign aims to raise awareness on HIV prevention and reduce stigma and discrimination; to increase the number of condom use and enhance the accessibility to condom; and to promote HIV testing among the Youths, Most at Risk Population (MARPs) and the general population, according to AHF press release obtained by New Youth.

The release said, AHF is working with Phnom Penh Municipal Health Department (MHD), University students, and 12 NGO partners in Phnom Penh working on HIV/ AIDS with most at-risk populations in Cambodia to implement the campaign at Kos Pich, San Han Market, Psar Chouk Meas, Kean Klang, Health Center Psar Deun Tkov,  Health Center Teuk Tla,  Health Center Samdech Ov, and Health Center Steung Mean Chey.

As part AHF’s global advocacy activities, every year its branch office in Cambodia participates in events such as World AIDS Day (during the Water Festival), and International Condom Day Campaign (during the Valentine Day).

These activities bring together various NGO partners, networks, the NCHADS, the Ministry of Health through Municipal Health Department to raise HIV/AIDS awareness, conduct thousands of HIV testing and distribute thousands of condoms especially to most at risk population who participate in the event, the release said.
