Cambodian Senate President Urges the Government to Send a Complaint to the UN Security Council over Its Border Dispute with Thailand
Phnom Penh (2 June 2025): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen on Monday recommended that besides bringing the current Cambodia–Thailand border dispute to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the Royal Government of Cambodia also has to file a formal complaint to the United Nations Security Council.
Speaking at the the inaugural joint congress of the National Assembly and Senate, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said “I would like to recommend to the Royal Government that, in the event of an armed conflict, whether the case is already in court or not yet filed, please do not forget the UN Security Council”
“As we have done before, if there is aggression, we defend ourselves militarily on the ground, but diplomatically, we must open the doors of the Security Council, as we did in 2011. Please do not forget the UN Security Council. I hope it will play a role in encouraging dialogue and legal resolution,” said Hun Sen adding that Cambodia does not want war as it has already suffered enough.
