EU: Thai-Cambodian Conflict Must Not Go Further

EU can offer satellite imagery for ceasefire monitoring

Phnom Penh (17 December 2025): The European Union has released a statement saying that the fighting between Thailand and Cambodia must not be allowed to spiral further.

In the statement on Wednesday, Ms Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, said that the ceasefire needs to be immediately restored.

“I will continue to engage to help get out of the escalation cycle. The EU can offer satellite imagery for ceasefire monitoring,” Kallas said adding that the message she conveyed to Foreign Ministers of Thailand and Cambodia when she spoke to them on Wednesday morning.”

For the Thai invasion from 7 to 16 December, 17 Cambodian civilians (1 infant) were killed and 77 others injured.

Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence on Wednesday also said Thailand has used all types of heavy and destructive weapons and equipment including F-16 fighter jets, DTI-2, bombing drones, Cluster bombs and toxic gas, including the deployment of a large number of troops to encroach on Cambodian territory is a clear and irrefutable proof of Thai violation of the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter and the basic principles of international law.
