Germany’s Ganzberg Beer undermines Cambodian women’s value, Cambodians

Phnom Penh (9 Dec 2015): Cambodian women on Wednesday urged Germany’s Ganzberg Beer company to reconsider its spot showing a chance to win US$50,000 as it is undermining the Cambodian women’s value and culture.

The 1.01 minute-video spot aired on all TV stations showing that many young women, including an elderly, in white wedding dresses chase from behind a man who wins the prize of US$50,000.

Posting on her Facebook Wall, Ms Chhon Na Vy who works at the Ministry of Information, writes that the company and other related experts need to recheck the spot as it “affects the moral, culture, and women value”. Follow her writing, there are many comments blasting out Ganzberg Beer.

Ganzberg Beer produced and owned by Germans in Cambodia spends a lot of money for advertisement to compete with many other local and imported beers. It has announced its prize with hundreds of pick-up trucks and motorbikes. The latest ad is the video spot showing that a drinker can win US$50,000.
