Phnom Penh (September 14, 2013): The top management team of British American Tobacco Cambodia (BATC) has been blamed by a resigned employee for their shrugging of the country’s labour law.
Mr. Hor Bona — BATC Regional Sales Manager who resigned from the post in mid July 2013 — said he left BATC due to mismanagement of his former top managers such as Pilipino General Manager Gino Dizon, Pakistani Head of Marketing Sheraz Khan, and Sri Lankan Line Manager Shiron Jayakody.
Mr. Bona said he agrees with his final package payment offered by BATC’s top managers but so far he has not received and been very upset with BATC behaviors.
“They want me to sign a term and condition by not allowing to engage any distributor and to work for BATC’s competitors for 12 months after leaving BATC. Such condition will kill agreement to all Cambodian employees and against the labour law of Kingdom of Cambodia which I never accept it. They keep holding my payment,” he told New Youth and Cambodia News reporters.
Through his lawyer, BATC decided to drop from 12 months to 3 months for the term and conditions.
New Youth also asked Gino Dizon, BATC General Manager, the root of the problem through his email and text on his cell phone, but there is no response from him.
