Germany to give more millions of EUR for flood repair measures

Phnom Penh (17 Jan, 2012): The German Embassy here in Phnom Penh on Tuesday announced that its government has recently agreed to make available an additional amount of 8 millions EUR (about US$10 millions) to finance the project “Flood repair Measures.

According to the embassy’s prelease today, the project will focus on  rural infrastructures” in six of the provinces — Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Kampong Chhnang, Kratie and Prey Veng — severely affected by the floods.

The planned repair measures will primarily focus on basic rural infrastructure such as roads, bridges, culverts, constructions for drainage and irrigation but may also include the repair and reconstruction of damaged schools and health centres.

The planned measures are designed to allow the rural population to regain access to economic and social infrastructure in the medium- and long-term, said the release.
