Phnom Penh main streets blocked by police
Phnom Penh: Security has been beefed up in the early evening of Sunday after the poling time and the main streets have been blocked, leaving traffic jam in some streets.
Several Cambodia News reporters have patrolled in the capital in the evening and seen all gasoline stations are full of cars and motorbikes waiting for filling gas while many people are queuing in front of banks’ ATM booths to withdraw money that looked usual.
Hey Makara, 29, said he needs to take some money because he feels scary of something happens after the election results.
Independent NGOs said the Sunday polls has been done as scheduled and people looked very active to vote.
Speaking at a press conference at 6:15 pm on Sunday, ADHOC President Thun Saray said there have been 200 cases of irregularity nationwide — mainly in Phnom Penh, Kampong Cham, Siem Reap, Prey Veng, and Svay Rieng — and one case of violence due to a confrontation between military police forces and unhappy voters in Phnom Penh. Two military police vans were damaged.
The irregular cases are — voters could not find their names or no names in the voting lists and authorities were present at the polling booths, Thun Saray told the conference by adding that Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) of Sam Rainsy looks like leading in the results in big provinces.
CNRP also issued a statement today to appeal its supporters to stay calm, avoid any violence or provoke problem, and wait for the official results in the short future. Cambodia News staff
