Cambodia seeks Thailand to return its soldiers

Phnom Penh (31 July 2025): Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense spokeswoman on Thursday told reporters that Cambodia is working to with the Thai side in order to release 21 Cambodian soldiers captured by Thai military yesterday.

So far, Cambodia got one soldier body while the other 20 are being detained in Thailand, she said adding that Cambodia is seeking Thailand to return them as soon as possible and safely.

On Wednesday, a Cambodian military commander told military attachés and diplomats from 13 countries that Thai military used their worst trick to capture the Cambodian soldiers by asking them to take souvenir photos with them after the ceasefire.

While taking photos, another Thai military group came from behind with rifles and pointed guns at them and captured.
In contrast, the Thai military commander said the Cambodian soldiers surrendered and confessed in the battle. (Chhay Sophal)
