Russian Prosecutor General First-ever Arrives in Cambodia
Phnom Penh (26 May 2025): A Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation arrived here in Phnom Penh capital on Monday for the first time in his career to strengthen cooperation of the two nations’ law enforcement authorities.
Igor Krasnov’s visit accompanied by Anatoly Borovik, Russian Ambassador to Cambodia scheduled to hold talk with his counterpart – Chea Leang, Cambodia’s Prosecutor General of the Supreme Court – and other leaders of the Ministry of Justice for bilateral cooperation as Cambodia and Russia have their legal framework of extradition treaty.
According to an official of Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice, Krasnov is also to sign on some documents to strengthen cooperation in the legal issue.
In Phnom Penh, Krasnov also laid wreaths at the Independence Monument and at the Statue of the Late King Father Norodom Sihanouk.
Krasnov’s visit is made following after a former Cambodian man was extradited from Russia to Cambodia late on May 24 to face criminal charges and he is now in Phnom Penh’s custody.
The man has been charged with serious defamation and threats stemming from an incident in November 2024.
According to the official, Cambodian authorities in collaboration with International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), issued a Red Notice that led to the man’s arrest by INTERPOL Moscow on January 13, 2025 while he was preparing to board a train to Moscow. (Chhay Sophal)
