RUPP participates in int’l climate change vulnerability training-worksh

The Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) joined the five-day “Vulnerability Workshop and Training in Cost-Benefit Analysis” hosted by the Hue University College of Economics, Vietnam on 7-11 January.
The training-workshop is conducted as part of the three-country research “Building Capacity to Adapt to Climate Change in Southeast Asia” funded by the Economy and Environment Program for Southeast Asia (EEPSEA) of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
RUPP is implementing the research in the Cambodia study site, while the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and Hue University carries it out in the Philippine and Vietnam study sites, respectively.
SEARCA, headed by Director Gil C. Saguiguit Jr., is the regional center for agriculture of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), of which Cambodia, Vietnam, and the Philippines are charter members.
The research project aims to strengthen the capacity of local government units to design and adopt effective adaptation measures to reduce the negative impacts of climate change.

Dr. Saguiguit said SEARCA believes that more attention should be given at the local and farm levels which are the most affected and vulnerable to climate change. It has thus intensified efforts to assist local government units in Southeast Asian countries.
