Phnom Penh (9 Jan, 2012): With marking 200 Days to the opening of the Olympic Games in London of British Embassies and High Commissions around the globe, British Ambassador Mark Gooding on Monday raised the London 2012 Flag with Cambodian official for the first time at the British Embassy in Phnom Penh.

Mark said “This is an exciting year for the UK, hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games and celebrating Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee.  We wish all the Cambodian athletes well in their training and look forward to seeing them and many more visitors in London in 2012,” said a press release of the embassy obtained by Cambodia News Monday.

The release quoted British Foreign Secretary William Hague as saying that “Hosting an Olympic and Paralympic Games is a signal honour and we are proud to welcome the world to London to join the spectacle.:

At the heart of this is what the long term legacy of the Games can bring; connections and friendships between our towns and cities and the nations we welcome, William said in the release. CN staff
