Daily Waste from Nearly 27 Million People Becomes Valuable Resources

Incheon, South Korea (27 April 2024): With a moto of ‘Waste but Energy’ to lead the company for renewable energy development, the so-called eco-friendly power station –  Ecobio Holdings Co., Ltd – has generated Waste Landfill Site in Sudokwon metropolitan city with 5,500 tons of waste daily from more than 26 million people in Seoul capital, Incheon and Gyeonggi-do cities into more than 50MW electricity per hour and raw materials for other products.

Since 1989, Ecobio has sought to be a pioneer in natural resource circulation society through technological innovation and evolution of past, and so far, 50MWh electricity can be supplied up to 180,000 households, consuming 200kWh per month.

According to Ecobio’s report, the Waste Landfill Site can make Green Hydrogen by both installing and operating hydrogen station to supply cleaner energy through reforming biogas into clean hydrogen while high growth rate has been creating a whole new standard in renewable energy through Ecobio’s technology and passion.

Young Min Kim, Vice President of Ecobio Holdings Co., Ltd told a group of journalists from different countries led by Asian Journalist Association (AJA) at the plant.

Sudokwon Landfill Site, located about 35 kilometers east of Incheon International Airport, can also produce gas, electricity, fishery fertilizer, raw material for household goods, and raw material for cosmetics and medicine, Young Min Kim, Vice President of Ecobio Holdings Co., Ltd told a group of journalists from different countries led by Asian Journalist Association (AJA) at the plant.

Using LFG as the energy resource, Ecobio is not only contributing to produce electricity but also creating economic value whereas minimizing the environmental impact in the nearby surroundings with preventing global warming, Young said adding that taking 200kWh per month as an average energy consumption, Ecobio has the power to supply 180,000 households with electricity.

Sudokwon Landfill Site is the world largest Power Plant in terms of the amount operating power and captured landfill gas after the one in Los Agentless, USA, generating 90.99 million won or about US$70,000 in sale revenue per day, and the cumulative sales amount is 555 billion won or about US$424,215,000. Over the past 10 years, it has reduced carbon emissions equivalent to the amount of 3.4 million passenger cars in one year, the report wrote.

Besides providing valuable resources,  Sudokwon Landfill Site has become an International standard golf course with hosting 36 holes located the upper Site 1 with 4.09 million square meters and it was selected by the 2014 Asian Games golf match and the US Women’s Open Championship. Since then, about 16 million people have visited the golf club each year.

It also offered benefit such as beloved city parks, wildflower garden, swimming pool, camping ground, soccer field, baseball park, futsal court and horse-riding course while the residents’ kids are also getting scholarship for their studies. National Institute of Environmental Research, Korean Environmental Corporation, and Environmental Industry Research Complex locate nearby too.
