Phnom Penh (7 Jan, 2012): Cambodian People’s Party of Prime Minister Hun Sen on Saturday celebrated its 33rd historic victory day over the Khmer Rouge killing fields regime on 7th January, 1979.

At least some 2 million people died of execution, overwork, starvation, and disease during the genocidal rule of Pol Pot between 17 April, 1975 and 7th Jan1979.

Prime Minister Hun Sen and his colleagues with support from the voluntary Vietnamese soldiers marched to Phnom Penh capital on 7th January, 1979 and declared the overthrow of Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge genocidal era.

Some people who are not allies of CPP have criticised the day saying that it was the day that Vietnam invaded Cambodia and stayed until 1990.

Premier Hun Sen on Thursday in Kampong Charm province welcomed those who criticize 7th January day and he said that due to such worthless criticism, CPP has gained more supports from the public years by years.
