Hundreds of Cambodians join courses in India

Phnom Penh (23 Jan 2014): Around 1,100 Cambodian officials have so far received training in India in various fields, fully utilized by Cambodia and highly appreciated by the Cambodian government, according to a press release of the Indian embassy.
The release obtained by Cambodia News today says some 120 Cambodian nationals are sent every year for training in over 200 courses in multi-disciplinary areas for their role in capacity building and human resource development.
The training is part of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme the Government of India launched on the 15th September, 1964 as a bilateral programme of assistance to 158 developing nations.
According to the release, the programme is part of India’s initiative at South-South cooperation and is a visible symbol of India’s role.
“Under this programme, the Government of India pays for full airfare, accommodation, transport, course fees as well as a living allowance, a book allowance and medical
facilities. In addition, all participants are taken on study tours to familiarize themselves with the history and culture of India”, read the release.
Indian Ambassador Dinesh K. Patnaik next Monday is hosting a Reception at Intercontinental hotel attended by a number of ITEC trainees from Cambodia as well as by local dignitaries and various government.
