Thailand must withdraw its troop from Cambodian territory around Preah Vihear temple, ICJ
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague on Monday ordered Thailand to have to withdraw any soldiers from the disputed area around Preah Vihear temple on the border with Thailand.
BBC reported that ICJ – the UN’s highest court — has ruled that the area around the temple where the long-standing rift led to clashes of the two nations – is belonging to Cambodia.
Delivering the judgement, Peter Tomka, ICJ President, said the court had decided “that Cambodia had sovereignty over the whole territory of the promontory of Preah Vihear. In consequence, Thailand was under an obligation to withdraw from that territory the Thai military or police forces or other guards or keepers that were stationed there,” according to BBC report.
