Cambodia kicks off its national election campaign

Phnom Penh: Cambodia today starts its national election campaign for the fifth mandate to choose the country’s new national assembly and government.
Prime Minister Hun Sen’s Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) looks very active and well prepared in the early morning on Thursday 27 June for the one-month campaign. Bands on the streets are seen with CPP supporters.
Prime Minister Hun Sen has been in power of premiership since 1985.
Sam Rainsy — who is the leader of the opposition National Rescue Party and widely known as Hun Sen’s strong opponent — is living in exile in Paris, France.
Eight political parties have been registered at the National Election Committee (NEC) for the election on Sunday 28 July. NEC urged all parties to respect laws and ethics during the campaign.
